  • Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens: Bon Festival
    Saturday, August 14, 2010 : 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM

    Cost: Adult $10; Children $5 (4-17); Museum members and children 3 and under FREE Inspired by Obon, Japan’s traditional three-day holiday honoring ancestors and thanking them for the quality of life enjoyed by the living, The Morikami will celebrate the 32nd annual Bon Festival in one fun-packed evening. Rain or shine, entertainment will include rousing taiko drum performances, traditional Japanese folk dancing with audience participation and a street fair with games and vendor booths. The highlight of the evening will begin at sunset when the lake surrounded by majestic gardens will be transformed into a tranquil sea of lighted lanterns that, in accordance with Japanese custom, guide the departure of ancestors’ souls who have come for a brief visit among the living. A special fireworks display will cap the enchanting evening. (Please note that The Morikami will be closed during normal hours of operation on this day and will open at 5:00pm for the event)

  • Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens: Sushi & Stroll Summer Walk Series
    Friday, August 20, 2010 : 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM

    Cost: $7 adults, $5 children (4-17) (Museum members and children 3 and under FREE); $2 for taiko performance (optional). Reservations are not required. Summer nights in South Florida are something special, especially when they are augmented with taiko drums and a cultural backdrop that can't be beat! Add a cold drink, a breathtaking sunset and a walking path through a tranquil garden, and you've got Sushi & Stroll Summer Walks! Stroll the gardens at your own pace and take advantage of our self-guided audio tour. Excite your palette with something delicious from our own Cornell Café, indulge in some shopping at the museum store or tantalize your senses with a drumming performance by Ronin Taiko. Please note that the museum galleries are closed for these special nights.

  • Leadership of Palm Beach County
    Saturday, August 21, 2010 : 9:00 AM to Sunday, May 15, 2011 : 6:00 PM

    Leadership of Palm Beach County, an educational community leadership organization is now accepting applications for its adult leadership program. Application deadline is Friday, April 30th, 2010. Information is available at www.leadershippbc.org or by calling 561-833-4321. The next program begins August 21st, 2010 through May 15, 2011.

  • Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens: Family Fun Program; Origami For The Peace
    Saturday, September 11, 2010 : 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM

    Fun for all ages! Cost: $1 with paid museum admission. Family Fun Programs are for those who want to explore and learn about Japanese culture through hands-on arts and crafts projects designed for the whole family. Families can create projects in an open workshop. Origami For The Peace will take place in Classroom A. Reservations are not required. For more information, please call 561-495-0233 x 237.
